Google Adds Video Overviews and Smarter Studio Tools to NotebookLM
NotebookLM users can now generate narrated video summaries and work across media formats in one unified research space. Google’s latest updates aim to streamline how users synthesize, visualize, and present complex information.

Google is rolling out a set of new features for NotebookLM, its AI-powered research tool. The biggest addition is “Video Overviews,” which transforms documents into narrated slideshows complete with visuals, quotes, diagrams, and data points. This is joined by a revamped Studio interface that offers four content creation types—Audio, Video, Mind Map, and Reports—with multitasking capabilities and improved output control. These updates are now available in English, with plans to support more languages soon.
The new tools target learners and collaborators who rely on NotebookLM to digest dense materials and share insights. Video Overviews are designed to improve comprehension by mixing AI narration with key excerpts and visuals. Meanwhile, the enhanced Studio helps users generate multiple output formats from the same notebook, useful for switching between planning, presentation, and discussion tasks.
NotebookLM’s evolution positions it closer to a multimedia workspace than a basic AI summarizer. The ability to preview mind maps while audio plays introduces lightweight parallel workflows. Google’s focus on cross-format synthesis may appeal to educators, research teams, and knowledge workers seeking more flexible and intelligible outputs from their notes and materials.
